Jeffry Brown: Millennium Harper of Children's Literacy of Southeastern Pennsylvania

I, Jeffry D. Brown, hereby proclaim my intention to embark on a harp quest on this the 22nd day of February 2002 to become the Millennium Harper of Children's Literacy in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

I have approached the children's librarians in the Delaware County Library System and have offered my services for a musical story hour. I am putting together a program, which I am calling "Stories with Strings Attached" that will be comprised of several children's "big books" which will be sung to the accompaniment of my lap harp. I will perform several stories along with some sing-alongs and provide an opportunity for the children to play my folk harps.

I have been a full-time kindergarten teacher for the past 13 years and thus will orient my program of literacy and music to the four-to-six-year-old age group. In addition to the 15 children's libraries (Ardmore Public Library, Chester Public Library, Darby Free Library, Lansdowne Public Library, Marcus Hook Public Library, Media-Upper Providence Library, Middletown Free Library, Prospect Park Free Library, Radnor Township Memorial Library, Ridley Park Public Library, Ridley Township Public Library, Swarthmore Public Library, Upper Darby/Sellers Library, Upper Darby Primos Public Library and Yeadon Public Library), which have gratefully scheduled my program into their summer story times, I will also perform for several sessions of the Upper Darby Kindergarten Center Kamp Koala summer program, and additional performances for the "First Step" and "Next Step" children's literacy summer programs to total a minimum of 25 performances.

I will document my performances with witness signatures on a Proclamation and with photographs... and thus proclaim my right of ascendancy to the title of Millennium Harper of Children's Literacy in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
